The Anti-Depression Professional: Continuing Education and Certification

The Anti-depression is a different kind of program that uses the human brain’s capacity for sustainable change as it trains it to become better. Neuroscience brings new understandings in what is needed to propel neuroplasticity and the development of specific brain capabilities. In depressive and excessive stress states, a set of specific changes are observed in brain circuits, neurotransmitters, growth factors, and several physiological aspects. This results in cognitive, emotional and physical symptoms. Each person presents a unique clinical picture can be correlated with specific brain activity profiles.

While drug approaches, which are often very useful, focus on a specific aspect of brain characteristics, such as a change in a specific neurotransmitter, research demonstrates that a person can achieve large scale brain changes using non drug and non psychotherapy modalities, such as lifestyle and thought patterns. Modalities that have demonstrated measurable improvements in anxious and depressive states include heart rate variability training and meditation, sleep enhancement strategies, nutritional interventions, physical exercise, thought pattern modifications, neurofeedback, among others. These approaches often demonstrate, in clinical research projects, that they act synergistically on several electrical and biochemical systems at the same time, while being safe. They don’t interfere with medical or psychotherapeutic modalities, and can be done alongside these treatments, as they usually have the potential to make them more effective.

The last 15 years have been particularly rich in findings to confirm the mechanisms of action of life style and thought modification approaches. Above all, they have made it possible to identify specific conditions for their success, such as the technique used,  the right dosage, frequency, and individual tailoring.

The training of The Anti-Depression Professional develops his understanding and competency to better guide his client or patient, using new knowledge regarding neuropsychophysiological, hormonal and epigenetic effects of  specific lifestyle and thought modifications. The goal is to make the professional knowledgeable and competent as a brain fitness educator and coach, enabling him to empowerment his client or patient to take charge of his brain health in a personalized and sustainable way, and achieve measurable results on cognition, behavior and mood.

Continuing Professional Development and Certification are offered as follows:

  1. Depression, its Causes, Treatment and Prevention: an online introduction module. (prerequisite to follow a module in person).
  1. Module 1: Mind-Body Consistency: I cut myself off from stress by practicing heart coherence and meditation. Online module followed by in-person training, in Montreal, on Sunday, January 20th, 2019 from 10:00am till noon.   2. Module 2: Sleep and Biological Clock: I fall asleep and recover fully. Online module followed by in-person training in Montreal, on Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
  1. Module 3: Brain-Healthy Nutrition: I'm eating to be at my maximum. Online module followed by in-person training in Montreal, Sunday, February 10th, 2019 from 10:00am till noon.
  2. Module 4: Brain-Healthy Physical Training: I train physically to overcome depression. Online module followed by in-person training in Montreal, Sunday, February 10th, 2019 from 13:00 to 15:00.
  1. Module 5: Social Support for Stress: I fight stress by connecting to others. Online module followed by in-person training in Montreal, Sunday, March 10th, 2019 from 10:00am till noon.
  1. Module 6: Constructive Anti-Stress Thinking: I'm learning how to think to move ahead. Online followed by in-person training in Montreal, on Sunday, March 10th, 2019 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.
  1. Module 7: Anti-Stress Sense of Consistency: I flourish by offering my passions to the world. Online module followed by in-person training in Montreal, Sunday, April 14th, 2019 from 10:00am till noon.
  1. Module 8: Anti-aging Brain Health: I choose to stay young in my mind and body. Online module followed by in-person training in Montreal, on Sunday, April 14th, 2019 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.
  1. Certification Exam ‘’The Anti-Depression Professional, Level 1’’. Its success gives the certification '' The Anti-Depression Professional, Level 1 '' from the Brain Knowledge Institute, valid for a period of 5 years.

    Modalities: Each training module requires a maximum of five hours of study outside the in-person training, in order to  view the training videos, read the recommended documents and complete the mini-tests; the prerequisite for any of the training modules is to have completed and passed the online introduction module; The training modules can be followed in the desired order; a period of six months is allowed to complete a training, from the date of registration; To obtain the certification "The Anti-Depression Professional, Level 1", the online exam must be passed after completing all of the training modules. The certification is valid for five years, after which the success of the update training is required.

    Cost: $ 150 for the introductory module; $ 250 per training module; $ 100 for the certification exam.

    Trainer

    Francine Therrien, Ph.D., has spent ten years researching non-drug methods in the treatment of major depression at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Sherbrooke. Since 1990, she has been an active consultant in Organizational Health and the Prevention of Absenteism in the workplace. Since 2001, she has been acting as a private coach in neuroperformance for professional athletes and people looking for excellence, as well as as part of an integrative approach to mental and cognitive health.

    She holds diplomas in Kinesiology (B.Sc.), Physical Education (B.Sc.), Global Health Kinesiology (M.Sc.), Clinical Research (Ph.D.), Naturopathy (N.D.), Ergonomics, Biofeedback, Heart Rate Variability, Neurofeedback (certified Mentor EEG-BCIA), Reconnective Healing (Level 3) and has numerous trainings in Anti-Aging Medicine, Neurocoaching and other complimentary approaches.

    She has authored a book published in French: ‘’reConstruisez votre cerveau… pour être aux commandes de votre efficacité mentale et de votre pleine santé psychologique’’ (‘’Rebuild Your Brain… To Be in Command of Your Mental Efficiency and Total Mental Health’’) (Mento Communications Inc., 2012) and of the Public Speaking Talk ‘’Brain Ready for Work: Transformative Life Habits’’  (Optimum OHS, 2004).
